THEY ARE ALL THE RAGE:  Smaller, richly colored, structured top-handled purses that are just right for the new fall season.  The scaled down size actually makes those super-big bags of yesterday look just that:  yesterday.  Most of the new bags are in leather, all with a rich patina, and often bold, saturated color.  Think in terms of bright yellow, red, blue, equestrian brown, tan, and shiny black.

Shapes run from the iconic Kelly bag look to angular, frame, satchel and elongated cylinder styles. Not all the styles are minimalist, or plain. Here and there, expect to see some great looking pebbled leathers, quilted designs, lacy or brocade looks, and even fancy buckles and bows. You’re going to love them.

WHAT TO BUY:  Want to help your customers buy jewelry that is best suited to them?  Here are a few hints from The Oprah Magazine

  • Long necklaces are great for just about everyone!  A long strand that hits just below the belt makes the wearer look longer and leaner.
  • Rings can be chosen to flatter the hand. If you’re looking to make your fingers look thinner, choose a thin band or a ring that extends toward the knuckle.  If you already have thin fingers, you’re in luck.  You can wear thin or wide rings with aplomb!
  • Earrings can enhance the look of your face when well chosen.  Earrings with drops are best for round or square faces.  Studs or buttons look best with oval or long faces. Hoops look great on anybody, which is probably why they’re so universally popular
  • Skinny bangle bracelets are a girl’s best friend.  Any girl.  Feeling overloaded with jewelry?  Skinny bangles can always be added without worry; they’re fragile enough to add glamour without excess.
  • Big cuff bracelets can be worn as is, no added bracelets needed.  Get a really good one, and wear it all the time as a statement piece.  Wow!
  • Want to look fashionably individual?  Add on a masculine element, like a large-sized watch, to complete your over all accessories’ style. It’s bold and riveting!

HOT TREND GETS STEAMIER:  Denim is bigger than ever!  Right now, there is an endless variety of denim on the market, with even more sizzling up for Spring.  Denim is important in myriad designs, from stonewashed jeans to urbane, shiny-finished denim handbags.  Look for denim jackets embellished with sequins, by designers like Valentino, done in slippery-blue denim with ruffled collar and peplum over this year’s version of hot pants.

—With denim in brilliant focus on the runways, it goes without saying that the color blue is important for the Accessories Industry to look at and market to.  Blue!  It may be fancy or casual or downright teenage rebellious. But it is denim.  And it is blue. And it looks terrific!

–Like a slippery wet looking pair of dropped waist dark blue jeans from Balmain to a classic pale blue denim blouse from Dries Van Noten or a matte-blue denim minimalist, sleeveless mini dress with zippered neckline from Akrie.  All different finishes, different styles, different modes. All denim.

–This is a trend to watch carefully!
