CELEBRATING THE OPENING of his new mansion-emporium on Madison Avenue, Ralph Lauren hosted an impressive collection of celebrities, from Martha Stewart, who said “I want to move in,” to Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld.  It was a dazzling affair, and particularly festive as New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg presented Lauren with the key to the city, and then talked about Lauren’s great American Success Story.

Bloomberg quoted Lauren as asking what he could do with the key.  “The answer is, absolutely nothing!” Bloomberg replied.  But then, handing Lauren a key chain, he said:

“I can tell you, as a fashionista, that it is the accessories that make the outfit.”

Lauren was quick to reply to that one:  “I will find a place to use it,” he said.  Ahhh, we’re sure he will!

                                 The Lauren “Women’s” Mansion

For those of you who haven’t stayed absolutely up-to-date on Ralph Lauren’s recent building spree, here is some more exciting news:

IT IS LUXURY GONE WILD:  Ralph Lauren’s new Madison Avenue mansion in New York, a relatively quick follow-up to his splendid mansion opening in Paris earlier this year.  You might say Lauren is on a roll! The New York store represents Lauren’s first women’s flagship and it covers an impressive 22,000 square feet of space, just across the street from the designer’s other flagship, the Rhinelander Mansion (which will now be devoted to menswear).

THE NEXT TIME YOU ARE IN NEW YORK, YOU MUST STOP BY AT 888 MADISON AVENUE!  YOU’LL SURELY WANT TO DRESS THE PART, TOO.  CHECK HERE FOR SOME GREAT ACCESSORIES TO WEAR:

One industry publication calls the mansion the ultimate case for luxury, what with its French neoclassical architecture, its Indiana limestone façade, and its grand staircase that sweeps across four retail floors, replete with expensive items and an aristocratic Parisian feel.

Lauren opened the luxe store claiming that, “We believe that people want good things.  But what they want now is more refined.  They want quality, service and attention.  They want an environment they feel comfortable in.”

                                            A New Standard

The Lauren Women’s Mansion sets a new standard for fashion display.  The first floor of the mansion is devoted to accessories, including handbags, scarves, and costume jewelry.  There is also a Watch and Jewelry salon, Lauren’s first in the United States.  It has themes like romantic, equestrian, and chunky chains.

The second floor is mainly sleepwear, while the third floor is devoted to salons for Lauren’s special label items (Black Label, Blue Label, etc.), each featuring an environment that reflects the brand’s characteristics, along with accessories. The fourth floor is given over to Ralph Lauren Home.

Exclusive items are also offered throughout the store, including a small alligator bag for $17,995, and a pair of evening sandals draped with onyx stones for $1,200.

Most of the floors are a symphony in clear white and pale neutrals, except for special areas, such as the Black Label salon, where dark carpeting sets a highly sophisticated tone.  Ralph Lauren Home also features dark colors (i.e. black walls) and bolder backdrops, such as black and white Zebra rugs.

Lauren says he aimed to create a glamorous environment in the new mansion, a place that would establish “what the clothes are about, what the jewelry is about, and what the furniture is about. I wanted to give everything a home that said, ‘This is Ralph Lauren.’”
