Greetings!
Everyone in the fashion industry has abundant
reasons to be optimistic as this new year opens up.
By now we've probably broke our New Year
resolutions, but our goals are still in tact and 2006 is
shaping up as a fertile field for success. Hats,
handbags, sunglasses, and accessories are sizzling.
Bold looks and color are driving costume jewelry to
new peaks. Glitz is booming (by now everyone
should own at least two sequin purses). And niche
markets like hematite, gemstone, shell, and themes
are as healthy as they can be. From now until May
opportunities come one after another and we just
need to be ready to supply the demand. So now we
need to prepare for the first two big events -- Mardi
Gras and Valentines Day.

It's Mardi Gras Time!
Bring the Parade to your Shop
From the pageantry of the balls to the magnificent
parades, Mardi Gras has to be the most
spectacular
event of the year. It definitely is the greatest free
show on earth. And for many retailers in Mardi Gras
areas it is their biggest season. Your response might
be "I'm 800 miles from New Orleans. What does
Mardi Gras mean to me?" The answer is that Mardi
Gras has mushroomed over the last few years. There
are major celebrations in St. Louis, Austin, San
Diego, and several other cities across the nation.
There are Mardi Gras parties celebrated everywhere
and Mardi Gras theme weddings for the bridal
industry. The main items that sell for Mardi Gras are beads,
face masks, boas, party hats, jester dolls, jewelry,
wall masks, favors, and tee shirts. These are the
items that you will see in the Bourbon Street shops
at Mardi Gras time and items that might provide an
opportunity for many retailers that are hundreds of
miles away from the main event. Even if the entire
Mardi Gras theme does not work for you, favors for a
Mardi Gras wedding, masks for masquerade parties,
or boas can be no competition items that will make
you a source.

Mardi Gras Spirit Expressed in Jewelry
Supply the Spirit, Supply the Jewelry
There is a feeling beyond words that we call
the "Christmas spirit". All the sights and sounds
around us contribute to it, but can't fully express it.
In Louisiana the sights and sounds change when the
new year starts -- it's Mardi Gras time! "Mardi Gras
Mambo" replaces "White Christmas" on the radio.
Mardi Gras signs and decorations pop up everywhere
and the ladies put away their holiday jewelry and don
Mardi Gras bracelets, pins, earrings, and
necklaces.
Whether you are in the area or a thousand miles
away, you can share in the spirit. Even if Mardi Gras is not significant in your area,
Mardi Gras jewelry can be sprinkled into your
costume jewelry line to offer some unique seasonal
items. The Mardi Gras colors are purple, gold, and
green. The main themes are crowns, jesters,
clowns, masks, and comedy/tragedy. Offer a
sampling of Mardi Gras jewelry to test the water. If
there is a demand, you could own the market in your
area. The crown jewelry in the Mardi Gras line can
also serve as pageant jewelry and the
comedy/tragedy items are perfect for drama.

Valentine's Day Jewelry
The Tasteful Gift that Expresses Warm
Feelings
Valentine's Day is the biggest day of the year for
florists. We can't steal their thunder, but we can
sure ride their coattails. Tasteful Valentine's jewelry
is a gift that expresses feelings. Not everyone can
afford diamonds on February 14th, so Valentine's
fashion jewelry can fill a need for those with deep
feelings that don't have deep pockets. It is also an
excellent add-on gift that will be there after the
flowers wilt. Bracelets, pendants, and earrings in heart shapes are
the leading sellers. Stock CZ heart pendants and
earrings for quality fashion jewelry for this special
occasion.

Will There be a Mardi Gras in New Orleans?
The answer is yes and it will be a very
special one. Parade riders are already buying their
beads and throws for the event that will announce
the doors are open. Come back and enjoy our city.
The spirit is still here.
